Northart celebrates its 10th anniversary with 10 Big Paintings, an exhibition based on the Auckland City Gallery's 1971 show of the same name.

Ross Ritchie, Beach Billboard: Road Kill, oil on linen, 2100 x 2810mm, 2008
Two of the artists in the original show - Robert Ellis and Ross Ritchie - are in the current lineup; the others are Garry Currin, James Lawrence, Simon McIntyre, John Oxborough, Clyde Scott, Rosemary Theunissen, Frank van Schaik and Sharon Vickers, all of whom have contributed significantly to the development of Northart over the past ten years.

Frank van Schaik, Ministry of Gravity. Regime of Coincidence.
acrylic on linen, 2100 x 2500mm, 2008
The paintings vary in size from 2.3 to 5 metres long, and 2.1 meters high - as big as the walls of the gallery would allow, and certainly big enough to have a strong visual impact.
The exhibition was opened by Hamish Keith.
Please see the gallery at the bottom of the page for more images from the show.
