Bang Zhen Deng, Rewi Alley, 2011, acrylic on canvas, 1525 x 1250mm
A photography exhibition organised by the North Shore Chinese Community to celebrate the life of Rewi Alley (1897 - 1987).
Born in Springfield, New Zealand, Rewi Alley was a prolific writer, a teacher, a social reformer and a member of the Communist Party of China. He was directly involved in the Chinese revolution and lived in China for more than 60 years. Alley did much to build strong ties between his adopted country China and his homeland New Zealand, founding the NZ China Friendship Society.
