Northart generally has two or more different exhibitions on at any one time, as we have two separate exhibition areas: gallery 1, 2 & 3 are separate but adjoining spaces, in one wing of the Norman King building; the newly renovated gallery 4 & 5, plus the small Members’ Gallery (contained within gallery 4), are in the other wing. A laundromat sits between them.
The gallery fronts on to a public square and has floor to ceiling windows, which are treated as separate exhibition spaces. The Artist's Window and other window display areas are changed regularly and are popular with evening strollers and window shoppers.
The galleries offer a diverse programme of individual and group exhibitions, which include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textile art, ceramics and glass.
A series of artist's talks, lectures, informal "meet the artist" sessions and other art events complement the exhibition programme. See the Public Programmes section for more information.
Admission is free, thanks to support from Auckland Council.
Northart's operation and development is possible only through generous support from Auckland Council, Kaipatiki Local Board, ASB Community Trust, Lion Foundation, Pub Charities, Birkenhead Licensing Trust, and Creative New Zealand Communities.
