What's On at Northart in February

OPENING THIS WEEKEND
MALCOLM HARRISON. A CELEBRATION
28 January to 21 February
Opening event 5pm Saturday 27 January
Curator’s floor talk 2pm Saturday 17 February

A stunning retrospective of artworks from the estate of nationally acclaimed textile artist Malcolm Harrison reveals not only his affinity for and achievements with fabric, but also his extraordinary ability to work across a wide variety of other media. First presented at Waiheke Community Art Gallery last year to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Malcolm’s death on the island in 2007, Northart’s larger gallery spaces have allowed curator Cerys Dallaway Davidson to include a more extensive range of his works. On display will be small and large quilts (some measuring up to 4 metres in width), wool tapestries and linen embroideries, small sculptural pieces and assemblages, as well as drawings and working drawings, sketches, illustrations, poetry and children’s books. In a free event, Cerys will present a floor talk on the works in the show on Saturday 17 February at 2pm.

LATE FEBRUARY
SUMMER MEMBERS’ SHOW
26 February to 14 March
Opening event 5pm Sunday 25 February

The many and varied talents of the numerous artists associated with Northart will be celebrated in the popular annual Summer Members’ Show. It’s an opportunity not to be missed, to view a diverse and exciting range of art, from painting to photography, printmaking and object art.

GROUP SHOW
FOUR PAINTERS
26 February to 14 March
Opening event 5pm Sunday 25 February

Also opening late February is a group show by Jo Dalgety, Cath Williams, Karenna Mollard and Suzanne Vesty. While the work of all four women falls loosely under the umbrella of ‘abstract’, Jo’s and Cath’s paintings are landscape based, Karenna’s work is hard-edged and geometric, and Suzanne’s more organic and expressionistic.

Open daily 10am to 4pm during exhibitions, except for public holidays.

Our galleries are presently closed for installation of our first 2018 show and will re-open at 10am on 28 January.

Northart will be closed on Auckland Anniversary Day 29 January and Waitangi Day 6 February.
