What's On at Northart in July

ARRESTED PRACTICE

18 July – 3 August
Opening event 4pm Sunday 17 July
Meet the artists 3pm Sunday 31 July

When does an artist decide to put down the brushes and declare a painting finished – or put it aside to (hopefully) finish later? ‘Arrested Practice’ addresses those very issues. It is a show of works that, for one reason or another, have been left incomplete. But while the artist might not have been able to resolve them satisfactorily, the ideas were too worthwhile to permanently abandon the canvas. Ten of Northart’s most senior painters are participating in an exhibition that is bound to draw considerable interest. See the full list of artists here...

SELECT: WORKS BY ARTISTS
FROM DORNWELL STUDIOS
18 July – 3 August
Opening event 4pm Sunday 17 July
Shared studio space is a great forum to stimulate ideas, and six members of the Dornwell Studios artists’ co-operative based in Three Kings will be displaying the results of theirs in this diverse show. You will see works in various media from Jo Dalgety, Susan Thomas, Trevor Bayly, Jane Thorne, Amy MacKinnon and Mark Bosley.

DRISANA TONGA: HELIAKI |
IN BETWEEN WORLDS
18 July – 3 August
Opening event 4pm Sunday 17 July
Drisana is of Tongan and Maori descent, and a recent graduate from Unitec. Her works show an intense interest in ‘line’, and express the connectedness of her personal worlds and the ways in which, through each brush stroke, an idea or way of thinking from one cultural tradition can instantly transition into another. (Heliaki is a Tongan word meaning ‘to say one thing and mean another’.)
