What's On in Northart In October

OPENING SOON
BRONZE AND IRON
10 to 26 October
Opening event 4pm Sunday 9 October
Artists’ floor talk 2pm Sunday 16 October

Bronze and Iron brings together the solo shows of three exceptional Elam-trained sculptors – Paul Dibble, Jeff Thomson and Phil Neary – who also all share a connection with Westlake Boys’ High School. Dibble will exhibit a group of bronze maquettes that reference New Zealand’s flora and fauna, history and art history in an often whimsical manner. Thomson continues to explore the possibilities of plaiting, folding, twisting and corrugating iron; while Neary (who also casts in bronze) works in collections of ideas, often utilising words, letters and objects which feed into each other as they explore the numerous meanings the idea or word is able to convey. The shows are presented as part of Artweek Auckland and Jeff and Phil will discuss their practice and works at a free public talk in the gallery on Sunday 16 October at 2pm.
